The Marbleizing Project

The set up, a shallow tray with a water mixture and acrylic paint floating on top

A friend who owns a custom bookbindery needed to make some gorgeous marbleized fabric for book covers and set up a fabric marbleizing station. She invited me to come and marble some fabric too.

I loved these peacock colors. I made some that were just like this, a Turkish method, with larger blotches of paint. it reminds me of lichen or agate.

I had some white place mats and napkins that weren't getting used, so I decided to marble them.

The same mixture above "combed" - this is the Venetian method.

You lay the treated fabric on the surface and the paint sticks like magic.

The place mats are on the left, peacock blue. The napkins are on the right and are more pinkish/yellow.

I also made some napkins that looked more like stone, on the far left.
