A good friend since middle school roped me into a couch to 5K running program - with the immediate end result being running in a 5K run in mid April (assuming we don't collapse on the run we're planning on doing more).
As a further push to myself I'm telling the interwebs that I'm running this race, so if I know you IRL and you'd like to come out to cheer us on make sure you ask us how we did and when our next race will be, to force us to run another one!
A few things I keep in mind that help me run (I think of them minute by minute when I think I can't run one more step):
My two primary reasons to run are to stop making excuses and actually start exercising, I was SO tired of being a lump on the couch; Also, I need to finish the nine week course so I'll be prepared for the 5k.
A sense of competitiveness - I want to keep up with the rest of the group and preferably run as long or as fast as my friends.
Mr. Pubby and Mr. Chops usually run with me, which helps a lot, to have that push. Plus it sort of tires out the terrier. Not really, but we pretend.
The reminders from my group of co-couch potatoes that exercise makes you feel better and have more energy.
The daily run takes 30 minutes. Even when you add in changing into running clothes and a shower it's less than an hour. My reasoning is that is less then an episode of Downton Abbey or CSI. I would rather know that I ran than I watched a TV show (which I can watch AFTER I run). *this is a big mental push for me, when I try and tell myself I don't have time to run*
I've also told everyone I know that I'm doing this and that I'll be running the 5k. If I stop then everyone will know!
(Bonus shot of a valentine's day cake.)
