Sad Cake/Happy Cake

One extra perk of my job is the amount of left over cake I have been able to eat every week. But sometimes cake is not always a good thing:

Sad Cake
"Well, I'm sitting here eating cake from another employee's good bye party.

It's the saddest thing, she is 8 months pregnant and her job has been eliminated (it's some kind of data entry job which is mostly electronic now). She'll have unemployment, but no maternity leave or anything like that. I think she already has a couple of kids. My co-workers who went said it was the saddest, most awkward party they had ever been to. I didn't go because I didn't know her, I didn't know why she was leaving until afterward.

I started eating my piece of cake that my co-workers brought me, and in the middle of the piece I found out the circumstances of the leave taking. The cake honestly didn't taste as good after I found out.

Normally I like cake but not this time."

Happy Cake
On Friday, after a slightly skimpy, too healthy lunch, I was walking down the hallway to the main office and thought to myself that a piece of chocolate cake would be really good right now. I literally thought, "It's a shame it's no one's birthday today." I went into the office and found out that it WAS someone's birthday and there was chocolate cake from Whole Foods.

I think I have magical powers.
